Celebrating Our 200th House: Samuel and Flora's New Home

In 2015, Make a Miracle started on a mission to make a difference in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru. We began by awarding college scholarships and providing homes for families in extreme need. Fast forward to today; we are thrilled to announce the completion of our 200th house!

Meet Samuel and Flora, a young couple with two wonderful children, aged 7 and 2. Their previous living conditions were dire—the house was falling apart and unsafe for their family. Samuel, the sole provider, works hard, but his income often falls short of covering their basic needs such as food and clean water.

When we informed them that Make a Miracle would be building their new home, Samuel and Flora were speechless. On the day of the build, they expressed their gratitude repeatedly to our staff and students who worked together to construct their new house.

During the house dedication, the family called the new home a blessing from God. Samuel's words were especially touching: "Your kindness will always remind us that after hard times, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and Make a Miracle is that light for our family."

As I think about all the houses that you, our generous donors, have built, I can’t help but remember the first house we ever constructed back in 2015. We built this home for a brave single mom and her two young boys, who had recently left a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Their new home was located at the very top of a hill, accessible only by climbing hundreds of stairs. I laughed in embarrassment when I realized the boys' grandmother, an elderly woman, was actually helping me up and down when I thought I was helping her!

It was a challenge yet felt great when we were successful in getting it built. We brought up a refrigerator and a sofa along with a sense of hope and stability. This home provided the fresh start this family desperately needed. It was a beautiful beginning for our housing projects and set the tone for the work we continue to do today.

Stories like Samuel and Flora's and the family that now lives on top of this hill remind us why our mission is so important. We believe in the power of community and the difference that kindness and generosity can make. As we celebrate this milestone, we encourage you to join us in making a difference. By funding a home for only $1,500 you can help another family achieve their dream of a safe, stable, and loving home. More information and to donate at makeamiracle.net.
